It's waiting again. i am in the starting blocks, ready to jump, and have to wait for week 12! even the END of week 12. before that, we can not be sure. which is why this blog will not be online prior to that week. so, if you can read this, week 12 has passed.

NATURALLY in pregnancies there are points in time when something significant happens. project managers call them milestones. today (oct28th, 2010) is such a milestone. the embryos should be sufficiently sized to see them inside the cavities. and more importantly: their heart beat!

so, we are at the doc's, walk inside the room with the funny chair, bruna disappears behind the undress-curtain. i say - for a laugh - "well, let's see the sextuplets!"

14 seconds later we are walking proof of the "aim higher" principle: the largest cavity shows two heartbeats! identical twins!


no matter WHAT i have ever seen in my life, THIS beats it. by a long shot! aiming for a laugh, i gave the clinic "triplets(at)mickmick.de" for an email address (and earned the laugh, too!), but now they are 4! peculiarly, i could have torn out a whole forrest - and re-planted it again - in this moment. and it still lasts; that moment. people around us try and make me believe it's gonna be hard. money, time, effort, work, vacation... blablabla... these kids will sleep through the night from day one, be potty-trained at six months, speak at 12, read at 24 and write at 36. trilingually. at least, this is what i will tell everyone. right after getting rid of my periorbitals by means of permanent make-up... :)

i CAN NOT be de-moralized, what ARE you thinking?!

So, today (oct14th, 2010) is testing day. our gynecologist, dr. zuerker, drew blood in the morning, in the evening we are sitting under the phone, holding hands, waiting. five-thirty, six, six-thirty, seven. call. eleven-thousand! and nothing is as it used to be! beta HCG. 11000. two "ones" and three "zeros"! i know somebody with twins, her value was 2000, another one with a single baby, value 1000. self-evident that we take the doc's offer to have a peek really quick. after all, at that time i had a reasonable fear of eleven-tuplets (or however you call that)!

ultrasonic image shows 3 cavities. strike, thinks the engineer in me, what efficiency! i always knew i'd be famous, now i co-invented the perpetuum mobile! paolo, we split 50:50, ok?

When we set out this morning (sep26th, 2010), dawn had not quite broken, yet. out of habit from punctuation day bruna hadn't eaten and stared at my breaky from the gas station, drooling. my heart bleeding, but with haste nonetheless i gulped it down. sorry, honey! :)

we are much too early. but don't have to wait, we are up in a heartbeat.

paolo explains and shows us on his monitor that pretty many cells developed properly. he would like to implant 2. we protest. (this will gain significance at a later stage! but of course, at this time no-one has a clue.) excitedly i share our views of safety margin and NOT wanting to go through all the pyschiological drags of failed trials, which is why we would like to have 3 implanted. from a medical standpoint, apparently, there was no objections, so of all good things are three.

surprisingly, the transfer did not only not hurt, it also developed into a very nice little stretch of time. but this is between the protagonists. thanx, michela, you ARE a gem!

well-rested we got back to the "base camp", where bruna was immediately horizontalized and covered. the handicapped hero with the broken kneecap instead shouldered the burden of packing and loading.

i never drove this lame home - or anywhere else for that matter. thank goodness for the van's cruise control, radio and coffee cup holder - i'da fallen asleep in a hurry.

next stop: test. oct13th, a wednesday

well, now (sep22nd, 2010) it's waiting. the boys met the girls. more to the point: dr. paolo netzbandt's team has united them by twos. 9 sets of cells in total. now they will start splitting, multiplying, growing...

waiting i try to meditate the cells of my broken, but healing kneecap into the same cell splitting performance.
we spend very very relaxing days at john's, rachel's and violet's, really great hosts with loads of sensitivity! thanx so much, guys!

today, this sep21st, 2010, was the starting "shot"! of course, i type this in retrospec, of course i have no idea then of what's in store for us here, of course i do not care.

we want a kid. two kids, three kids. four kids.

we do not want five kids.

but of course, we would not mind that either! :)

we are being hosted by very nice and dear friends in south east germany. conveniently met them - of course without a clue then - 2008 in YELLOWSTONE. so we get to the clinic. czech republik. punctuation. for women this is an inconvenient painful experience. for men it is a plastic cup, a nice room and a movie. life is so unfair!
